After receiving quotes from 6 companies, we went for Peter Barry. Although not the most affordable option, their teams are well organised and promptly responded to our queries. We were happy with the building survey, which was helpful to decide whether we would proceed with the property as we had some concerns. (We eventually did and had the completion recently!) The report is professionally written and you may need to teach yourself if you are uninitiated. The only minus was the report didn't come with any photos of the property. We received some at our request later, but weren't so useful to be fair.

I recently used Peter Barry Surveyors (Matthew Price) to assist me with the valuation of my property and the subsequent lease extension negotiations with my Landlord. Matthew prepared a desk top valuation report using floorplans I already had for my property, which was less expensive than but still very in-depth. Having never been through a lease extension process before he made it so much simpler for me. When I received the Landlord's counter offer which was initially quite high I was a little worried. Matthew was extremely professional and very efficient in keeping me updated. Matthew successfully negotiated with the landlords valuers on my behalf to reduce the lease premium down by over £2,000 on their initial offer. The Party Wall Act confirms that the party undertaking the works is responsible for any loss or damage suffered by the adjoining owner and that disputes should be determined by the appointed surveyors. However, it provides no further guidance on how the dispute should be resolved and that can differ considerably depending upon the scale of the damage.

Our Director Justin Burns recently completed an inspection of an adjoining property just off Heath Road in Twickenham following completion of the building owners’ rear extension. Some minor damage was noted to the adjoining owners’ kitchen.

Technically, the owners should be left to resolve the issue but experienced surveyors will use their experience to guide the owners and facilitate an agreement. In this case, the contractor agreed to the surveyors’ suggestion that he should return and make good the damage and the adjoining owners were pleased with the work.
